8/3/2023 0 Comments Crystal serenity san franciscoOur assignment is to pack apples into boxes so they can be delivered to schools and community pantries. I brought my mother here eight years ago and we enjoyed all the usual highlights: cable car rides, clam chowder at Pier 39, browsing Sausalito boutiques.īut this time, Crystal Cruises throws me a curve ball: the option of volunteering at a food bank as part of its “voluntourism” program, a concept that most major cruise and tour operators now offer.Īlthough the Bay Area features some of the richest enclaves in the world, there’s an army of “working poor” and one in four people experience food insecurity. Like so many travellers, I love San Francisco. Then Crystal Cruises throws me a curve ball: the option of volunteering at a food bank as part of its 'voluntourism' program. We can’t believe our luck to see it from a luxury ship on the water. Whatever you call it, the orange bridge’s huge cables, strung curtain-like between two art deco towers, really pop against the intense blue of the afternoon sky. Sailing under the San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge is just one highlight of an eight-day cruise down the Californian coast to Mexico. Is it terracotta? Burnt orange? Officially it’s “international orange”, which was chosen to make the monster structure more visible in San Francisco’s famous fog. A debate starts up about the famed bridge’s colour. It’s November and the wind is chilly as we join fellow passengers on the prow of the ship. From the start, there’s a buzz about sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge and the much-anticipated event occurs about 24 hours after we board. Santa Barbara, for example, bills itself as the “American Riviera” and many of its historic buildings, like the Old Mission, would be just as at home in Madrid, while its downtown is lined with rows of stout white buildings and red-tiled clay roofs.īut back to day one we pull away from San Pedro Bay, whereupon Serenity makes a sharp right turn to make the 700-kilometre journey north to San Francisco. The Spanish influence pervades everything from the food and wine onshore to the nomenclature of the towns we visit and their architecture. Given the south of California was once a major Spanish colony and later a Mexican territory, the whole region has a Hispanic feel, as does our cruise. But of course, Serenity is not nearly so naff – even if there are gentlemen on board whose only job is to dance with ladies sailing solo. Those who recall American sitcom The Love Boat will recognise this as the same route sailed by the Pacific Princess. We’re on the Pacific Coast Panorama itinerary, which begins in Los Angeles and ends in Mexico. ![]() Our penthouse suite is a larger, more wow, version of the traditional deluxe staterooms, finished with a generous-sized private balcony and spacious bathroom complete with the most decadent shower head imaginable: both in terms of size and settings (my immediate favourite is “rain drops”). Our private butler Frederick assures us the supply will be replenished as often as we like (cue small squeal from me). The day we board in the Port of Los Angeles, about 30 minutes from the city in San Pedro Bay, champagne and chocolates are on the table in our just-renovated Seabreeze Penthouse. But you don’t have to be old hands to realise straight up that Crystal Cruises really “gets” luxury.Ī Seabreeze Penthouse suite on Crystal Serenity. And with five restaurants on board, including one by renowned Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa, it would be plain silly to have the same meal twice.Īt this point, full disclosure: we had never been on a cruise before. No two shore excursions were the same, for instance. Of course, there were breaks in the routine. Our private butler Frederick assures us the supply of champagne and chocolates will be replenished as often as we like. Then it was time for a dip in the hot tub on Deck 12 (the Lido) – always perfectly timed to catch sunset – before meeting newly acquired friends for a gin and tonic at 6pm in the Crystal Cove piano bar. Later, at 4pm, chardonnay and canapes were served in our suite. ![]() Here’s a snapshot: mornings involved a quick session at the gym or a few slow-jog laps of the Deck 7 promenade, followed by a leisurely breakfast and some impromptu whale watching. ![]() Yet my overriding memory returns to, well, the simple delights of routine Crystal-style. True, the ports were mostly exotic, the refurbished Serenity was lovely, and the varied cuisine was delicious. But what about when routine becomes wonderful – sumptuous, even?Ī few months back, my partner, Craig, and I sailed on Crystal Serenity for an all-inclusive, eight-night cruise and, oh my goodness, how quickly we embraced routine. The treadmill that gets us through the working week with the minimum of fuss and tears. It’s that mundane but necessary part of life. 8/3/2023 0 Comments Jasper jones silveyIn his dream, Charlie is wronging his mother. After she loots the body and recruits three friends, she travels to another city, where she commits her second murder and steals again" (114). When considering the perspective of the witches, The Wizard of Ox becomes a horror story: "A young girl arrives in a strange place where she discovers she has killed someone. The dream reinterprets The Wizard of Oz from the witch's point of view, and in doing so it gives insight into Charlie's thought that stories depend on the perspective one tells them by. He is wearing Dorothy's ruby shoes, and his mother is the witch. ![]() After his fight with his mother, Charlie dreams that he is in the universe of The Wizard of Oz. This point of Charlie's, that "the more you have to lose, the braver you are for standing up," influences how much Charlie admires both Jeffery and Jasper, both of whom he sees as brave (56).Ī final allusion gives insight into Charlie's relationship with his mother. ![]() Superman isn't actually courageous, even though he isn't afraid of anything, because "He's a man of steel. And he does this without any weird mutations. Furthermore, Batman has been able to become as mighty as Superman even though he doesn't have superpowers: "He fights for Truth and Justice. Charlie believes that Batman is better than Superman because Batman has more to lose. He is flawless, yet he is capable of being flawed" (55). Charlie believes that Batman is ultimately better than Superman because Batman is mortal: "Batman is the ultimate human. More evidence that literature strongly influences Charlie's thinking comes when Charlie and Jeffrey argue about the relative merits of Batman versus Superman. Included in the list of things he now doubts is whether sex is so great. This causes Charlie to doubt everything he has learned, and he feels like he "can't trust anything" (34). And cigarettes make him cough, even though "Holden Caulfield reached for his cigarettes like an act of faith" (34). Alcohol is harsh and tastes bad, but "Sal Paradise held up bottles of booze like a housewife in a detergent commercial" (34). He realizes that even though fictional characters in his favorite novels love the experience of drinking and smoking, he finds them to be horrible. This perception of himself helps Charlie get brave enough to help Jasper out.Ī key allusion occurs when Charlie drinks and smokes for the first time. To Kill A Mockingbird shares many themes with Jasper Jones, and Atticus Finch's character teaches readers about the merits of tolerance and integrity. He thinks of himself as wise and tolerant, like Atticus Finch. ![]() For example, when Charlie considers why Jasper might have chosen him to ask for help over all other people, he thinks about Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird. Charlie uses the books he borrows from his father's library in order to make sense of this confusing time in his life. Charlie is an avid reader, and because of this, there are many allusions to literature in Jasper Jones. 8/2/2023 0 Comments Best used runabout boatsIt also comes with an exterior anchor locker ladder, stern telescoping lighting, bow telescoping ladder, stainless steel protective boots, a half canopy to keep the sun off of you while you’re cruising along, and an entertainment center with Infinity Bluetooth color screen, and four speakers. One survey of specialty arthroplasty surgeons reported that more than 70% of respondents had been sued at least once for medical malpractice during their career. Since the 1960s the frequency of medical malpractice claims has increased and today, lawsuits filed by aggrieved patients alleging malpractice by a physician are relatively common in the United States. However, before the 1960s, legal claims for medical malpractice were rare, and had little impact on the practice of medicine. In the United States, medical malpractice suits first appeared with regularity beginning in the 1800s. ” In 1532, during the reign of Charles V, a law was passed that required the opinion of medical men to be taken formally in every case of violent death this was the precursor to requiring expert testimony from a member of the profession in medical negligence claims, to establish the standard of care. One early medical malpractice case from England, for example, held that both a servant and his master could sue for damages against a doctor who had treated the servant and made him more ill by employing “unwholesome medicine. ![]() These records provide an unbroken line of medical malpractice decisions, all the way to modern times. After the Norman conquest of 1066, English common law was developed, and during the reign of Richard Coeur de Lion at the close of the 12th century, records were kept in the Court of Common Law and the Plea Rolls. Around 1200 AD, Roman law was expanded and introduced to continental Europe. Under Roman law, medical malpractice was a recognized wrong. Writings on medical responsibility can be traced back to 2030 BC when the Code of Hammurabi provided that “If the doctor has treated a gentlemen with a lancet of bronze and has caused the gentleman to die, or has opened an abscess of the eye for a gentleman with a bronze lancet, and has caused the loss of the gentleman’s eye, one shall cut off his hands. ![]() The concept that every person who enters into a learned profession undertakes to bring to the exercise of a reasonable degree of care and skill dates back to the laws of ancient Rome and England. 8/2/2023 0 Comments Paradise lost movie![]() In fact, given the size of the one who became known as 'El Patrón,’ 'El Doctor,' or simply 'Don Pablo,’ one would think that Escobar was more adept at the ticker tape. We will learn that they were hanged and burned alive. Of course, we will have some allusions to his Machiavellianism, as in the scene where he sends a gang of crooks who wanted to extort money from surfers to camp on the beach. ![]() Only in the flashback that follows will we see him as an actual bloodthirsty criminal, albeit in a reduced version. The image of a God-fearing Escobar that we have at the beginning of the film holds up even as he prepares to turn himself into the authorities. And because of the overwhelming hysteria we've seen around the 21-year-old Hutchinson's presence in San Sebastián to promote the film, we're even more convinced of that possibility. Let's be clear, the movie may be wrong, but the box office revenue may well justify such a narrative option. In his debut as a director and screenwriter, Italian actor Andrea Di Stefano – we saw him in the role of a priest in Pi's Life – takes advantage of the rising flame of Josh Hutcherson, the male hero of Hunger Games, and, of course, subalterns the role that Benicio del Toro could have ripped off as Pablo Escobar. And with Pablo Escobar's bloody legacy, that's a tremendous compliment to this Paradise Lost. Violence is never fetishized or gratuitous. Each death is genuinely felt without ever getting used to it. When the shots start to fly, the result is powerful. Violence is another interesting factor, as we are always peripheral to the criminal empire. ![]() Hutcherson holds these scenes without Del Toro, and Di Stefano shows he can build suspense. The highs of Escobar - Paradise Lost includes an excellent sequence of tension as the film nears its conclusion. Religion, of course, is also very present in The Godfather, but here it is merely symbolic. As in the book, the film shows its "Lucifer" in a sympathetic light - something that soon changes. The unnecessary search for religious imagery seems to be placed there only to establish a parallel with the title of the film, Paraíso Perdido, also the name of the best-known work of the poet Milton. Management and the Other Side of Historyĭi Stefano drives safely, but the film has its ups and downs. I can't imagine another actor who would look so good in the role (if you thought of Javier Barden, his brother Carlos plays an essential role in the film). The actor, who has made excellent mobsters in movies, goes from the charismatic and endearing to the monstrous and calculatedly vile in minutes in the skin of the drug dealer. Equally positive is the touted presence of Del Toro as Pablo Escobar. He's versatile and has plenty of room to show his talent here. When Nick questions Maria, “where does so much money come from?” the girl responds with innocence, “it's from the sale of cocaine to the Yankees.” Even though the poor girl is sure that “daddy is a good person and only wants the good of the family and the community.” And like so many mayors with a particular taste for gold. The film even begins by introducing Pablito Escobar as a mayor of a work done and dear to the people. But instead of investing his time in teaching surfing, he ends up getting involved with Maria (Claudia Traisac), Escobar's daughter. Nick ( Hutcherson) is a young Canadian who comes to look for his brother Dylan (Brady Corbet) on the paradise beaches of Colombia). For example, research by OLBG shows that you can play the game ''Narcos'' at Bet365’s online casino. It's even commercialized to the extent of having casino-inspired slots from Escobar. The name Escobar has today grown into a name known by most. Furthermore, his screen time is secondary to a young man who arrives without ties to crime to establish a relationship with the public. As in The Godfather, the figure of Pablo Escobar (Benício Del Toro) is a presence seen sparingly but felt all the time. The directorial debut of Italian Andrea Di Stefano, who also wrote the screenplay, is inspired by events in 1991 but extrapolates them, taking as its basis the most excellent mafia film ever made. 8/2/2023 0 Comments Reaper overwatch wallpaper![]() Kodi Plug-in Add-on Installation Television, Reaper overwatch, television, cartoon, fictional Character png 900x1055px 246.97KB.Overwatch Winston Game Tracer Character, Reaper overwatch, game, angle, video Game png 500x500px 225.1KB.Team Fortress 2 Overwatch REAPER Cockos GameBanana, others, game, gabe Newell, cockos png 512x512px 248.98KB.Overwatch Fan art Drawing Anime, Reaper overwatch, manga, fictional Character, anime png 655x1219px 376.92KB.Overwatch Fan art Sombra Hanzo, grim reaper, fictional Character, desktop Wallpaper, nexus Mods png 917x871px 417.03KB.Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Diablo: Hellfire World of Warcraft Overwatch, Evil, text, orange, computer Wallpaper png 2160x1440px 2.59MB.Overwatch Heroes of the Storm Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Death T-shirt, The effect of cranial skeleton, mammal, effect, throw Pillow png 512x512px 52.33KB.Overwatch Shrug Art Victory pose, reaper, video Game, fictional Character, shrug png 1662x2752px 2.82MB.Overwatch Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Heroes of the Storm BlizzCon Wikia, Fireball, effect, video Game, black png 512x512px 30KB.black and white holding gun character, Overwatch Chibi Fan art Mercy Drawing, grim reaper, fictional Character, cartoon, black png 667x900px 199.99KB.Overwatch Heroes of the Storm Diablo III: Reaper of Souls BlizzCon Brigitte, Johanna, video Game, weapon, diablo Iii png 1280x834px 312.44KB.Overwatch Halloween film series Video game Costume, Reaper overwatch, playStation 4, fictional Character, polygon png 879x825px 196.4KB.Overwatch Chibi Drawing Fan art REAPER, mercy, video Game, fictional Character, cartoon png 900x900px 156.55KB.Overwatch Mei Game Blizzard Entertainment REAPER, others, game, video Game, fictional Character png 665圆65px 649.71KB.Overwatch REAPER PlayStation 4 Computer Software Video game, overwatch, fictional Character, digital Audio Workstation, weapon png 1024x768px 129.18KB.Overwatch T-shirt PlayStation 4 Chibi REAPER, chuck norris, celebrities, chibi, playStation 4 png 600x810px 201.65KB.Overwatch Fan art Hanzo, reaper, purple, video Game, fictional Character png 1000x1300px 350.91KB.Overwatch Mei Video game Mercy Character, the reaper fortnite, game, video Game, meme png 508x748px 408.76KB.black line illustration, Overwatch Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Destiny 2 World of Warcraft, blizzard, angle, leaf, monochrome png 1600x1600px 44.71KB.Overwatch PlayStation 4 Mercy, reaper, logo, playstation, mercy png 512x512px 84.36KB.Overwatch Mei Shoulder shrug Video game, grim reaper, fictional Character, shrug, sombra png 1662x2752px 2.75MB.Overwatch Shrug Discord Emote Victory pose, reaper, meme, fictional Character, twitch png 1191圆70px 330.53KB. ![]() Overwatch Mei Widowmaker, reaper, video Game, fictional Character, widowmaker png 508x748px 249.97KB.Characters of Overwatch Diablo Mercy D.Va, grim reaper, chibi, video Game, fictional Character png 963x830px 314.46KB.Overwatch Heroes of the Storm Wiki, reaper icons, template, game, angle png 512x512px 54.12KB.Overwatch Computer Icons Mercy, Reaper overwatch, purple, violet, logo png 894x894px 38.96KB. 8/2/2023 0 Comments Target bullfrog sunscreen![]() This can be used on both your body and face, so no need to purchase multiple products.
